What Happens to Your Data and Listings If You Close Your Account
Deciding to leave a platform shouldn't come with uncertainty about what happens to your information. Here's a general overview of what account deletion means on Kaubaplats.
What deletion actually does
Once your account is deleted, all personal data associated with it is removed from our systems in accordance with our data retention policy, and the deletion is permanent — this isn't a deactivation that can be casually reversed, so it's worth being certain before confirming.
What happens to your listings
Active listings tied to your account are no longer available once your account is closed, since they're tied to your profile and can't exist independently of it. If you have items you're still actively trying to sell, it's worth completing or removing those listings before deleting your account rather than after.
What happens to messages and transaction history
Conversations and completed transactions involve another party as well as you, which is part of why some transaction-related records may be retained for a period even after account deletion — this is standard practice across most platforms, generally tied to legal, accounting, or dispute-resolution requirements rather than ongoing marketing use.
Before you decide to delete
- Download or note down anything you might want to reference later — past listing details, conversation history, or feedback you've received — since this won't be accessible afterward.
- Resolve any pending transactions, deposits, or disputes first, since account deletion isn't a way to sidestep an active issue.
- Consider whether a temporary break rather than full deletion better fits your situation, if that's something you're uncertain about.
Confirming deletion
Once you delete your account, you'll receive a confirmation that the process is complete. If you ever want to use Kaubaplats again afterward, you'll need to create a new account from scratch, starting with a fresh reputation and history.
